Psychological Elements of Global Citizenship
Orientation to Organic Psychology: The Natural Systems Thinking Process
- The science of communicating with natural systems
- The restoration of Earth's intelligence and
regenerative powers within us
- The art of thinking with nature
- A powerful antidote for Natural
System Dysfunction (NSD) and Industrial
Society's prejudice against nature.
- Academic credit or CEU credit/clock hours
available for Education, Counseling and Human Resources
- The organic application of Ecopsychology
"Human behavior is rooted most deeply in nature's
intentions and desire. The rhythms of nature underlie all of human
interaction: religious traditions, economic systems, cultural and
political organization. When these human forms betray the natural
psychic pulse, people and societies get sick, nature is exploited and
entire species are threatened."
.
...-Stephen Aizenstat
"Caring
people take note: the state of the world clearly demonstrates that
industrial society is prejudiced against nature and that the way it has
taught us to think betrays the natural psychic pulse.
It is negligent
for us to have, readily available, the means to safely help a life at
risk and not offer that help. In light of the deteriorating state of
life on Earth and the quality of life of many people, we are negligent
if we do not to learn, use and teach Organic Psychology.
It is a powerful remedy that helps us increase personal, social and
environmental well being.
...-Michael J. Cohen
"This is the course that every civilized person
will be required to take if we are to reverse our runaway disorders."

- Accessibility
to profound immediate support for your psyche and sanity from nature's
grace, balance and restorative powers.
,
- Personal
and professional support to enhance your relationships and careers
through online training, certification and degree programs that honor
your prior training and life-experience.

global consciousness and responsible ways of relating to strengthen
health and wellness
,
- Support
for and from the higher power that lies in your respect for or love of
nature.
The
Organic Psychology Natural Systems Thinking Process (NSTP) in
this course is an advanced educational tool, a social technology that
helps contemporary people safely make genuine sensory contact with
authentic nature to improve personal well-being and global citizenship.
- It
enables us to consciously restore nature's balanced intelligence and
restorative powers into our thinking, relationships and spirit.
- It
empowers us to realize our deeper hopes and ideals, to more responsibly
deal with personal or global problems, including those we ordinarily
might not think about or address.
- Its
nature-connected psychology provides us with readily available,
teachable, ways to connect to "higher power" in nature, backyard or
back country.
- It
is the means for supportive core study in all the courses offered in
the IGE Certification and Degree programs.
- It
is a course of study that can enhance any curriculum, discipline or
industy, increase sanity and reduce social service, health and
environmental budgets.
People
who use and teach the Organic Psychology of NSTP benefit from a
critical global citizenship component that is usually missing
from our thinking, and from our wellness goals. With it, online study
and support for our personal and professional relationships improves,
along with our credibility, citizenship and happiness.

Course Description:
"We
are dysfunctional socially and environmentally because we are cut off
and isolated from the world of nature and the natural."
...---Albert Gore
Discover
how the excessive separation of our psyche from nature stressfully
frustrates or injures our sentient inner nature to produce our
psychologically bonded dependencies and "unsolvable" personal and
global citizenship problems. Learn to reverse this destructive process.
Using the book "The Web of Life Imperative," master
thoughtful nature-reconnecting Organic Psychology support activities
that help us reduce stress and dysfunction by reconnecting us to our
fulfilling origins in nature's balance and renewing ways. This
accredited online-study education program improves our thinking by
satisfying our deepest natural curiosity, loves and spirit. It enlists
nature to help us decompose, transform and recycle the hurtful,
polluting elements in our psyche and their detrimental effects .
This
course scientifically teaches lasting, hands-on, education, psychology,
leadership skills and support activities that enable us to feelingly
tap into the "higher power" grace and wisdom of nature's creation and
restorative processes. Its email and telephone contacts between course
members let natural systems help us nurture warm interpersonal
relationships, well-being and responsibility.

Course Overview:
THE ECOPSYCHOLOGY OF
EDUCATING AND COUNSELING WITH NATURE
Updated from PSYCHOLOGY TODAY, May-June 1994
From
the druids of the Celtic forests to the great tribes of American
Indians, people have sought balance, peace and wisdom by living
according to the laws of Mother Nature.
Unfortunately,
this century will be remembered for unprecedented exploitation of
nature--and widespread psychological disturbance of individuals.
No
coincidence to Michael J. Cohen,
Ed.D., pioneer of an Organic Psychology he calls Integrated
Ecology or Applied Ecopsychology. A synthesis of ecology and
psychology, integrated ecology proposes that both the destruction of
the Earth's environment and people's isolation, stress and dysfunction
stem from a fundamental denial
of our sensory-emotional connection to, and support from,
nature. And by psychologically reconnecting with nature, we reverse our
psychological disorders.
Western
civilization emphasizes only the faculties of sight, reason, and
language, forcing most of us to suppress our inherent natural senses
--all 53 of them, by Cohen's reckoning. Among them: hunger, thirst,
compassion; color, sex, place; trust, belonging, intuition; community,
nurturing and motion, reason, consciousness and language. Each is a
supportive natural attraction form of love that sentiently connects us
to the world; we inherently register them and think with them to make
sense. Spending over 95% of our lives cloistered and indoors leaves
these natural sensory connections excessively wanting; global
citizenship waines, human dysfunction and evils -- cigarette smoking,
greed, dependencies, tranquilizers, violence -- naturally follow to
help satisfy the frustrations that result from our profound sensory
loss of nature.
Cohen
is not a lone hunter of the bond between man and nature. According to
Pulitzer-Prize winning sociobiologist Edward O. Wilson, Ph.D., of
Harvard, people have an inherent biological need to be in supportive
contact with the out-of-doors. He calls it "biophilia", and believes
that nature may hold the key to our aesthetic, intellectual, cognitive,
and even spiritual satisfaction. Our childhood love of animals and
natural myths and fairy tales may be early evidence of our basic
affinity for nature and its instructive and healing properties. Many studies affirm Wilson's
observations.
Counseling
and building responsible relationships by reconnecting with Nature?
Cohen has devised therapeutic online study training manuals, workshops,
on-site and e-mail/correspondence support group courses, discussion
groups and degree programs whose global citizenship activities, in
backyards or back country, re-create many beneficial relationships
enjoyed by earlier hunting, gathering, and communal living peoples. In
the American Psychological Association Journal "The Humanistic
Psychologist" (Vol. 21, No. 3) and other professional publications, he reports that
while on these education programs community spirit and responsibility
grows, participant's personality and eating disorders subside, learning
and other cognitive abilities improve, and violence and prejudice
dissolve. His participants learn to do, own and teach unforgettable
nature connecting support activities that produce these results
throughout their lives. Gradually, a deep environmental literacy
evolves that rejuvenates their natural senses, balance and joy.
From
his home base at the Institute of Global Education, a special public
education NGO consultant to the United Nations Department Economic and
Social Council, Cohen offers books,
workshops, grants
training
and degree
programs and information about ecologically
oriented education, outdoor
psychology and therapeutic methods to
attain good global citizenship.

Organic Psychology: a
nature-connected application of Ecopsychology
This
Orientation Course has proven helpful to its participants because they
share its core science in common. Its purpose is to
increasingly
help us relate reasonably to information we discover about the web of
life and to the full truth about our relationships with the web,
including our sensory relationships with it. Traditional science often
omits the sensory in order to be "objective." However, objecting to
true, sensory natural facts that we consciously experience,
such as the sensations of thirst,
community
or love,
is very poor
science. It produces our half-truths and disorders.
This
course works because it enables us recognize that Industrial Society
seldom acknowledges that it contains a strong prejudice against nature
and that, unbeknownst to us, it socializes/indoctrinates us to think
with that prejudice.
Organic Psychology provides us with a
remedy
for this destructive prejudice. It helps us erase our bias by applying
its antidote, an attractive familiarity with nature. We gain this
ability through a
science of ecology that is rooted in the empirical truth of first hand,
web of life, sensory experiences. They directly register the web and
its self-correcting ways in our psyche and consciousness.
This
enables our nature-connected experiences to demonstrate to our
critical thinking that that web of life functions through natural
attractions, through cooperative "webstring" sensitivities and senses
in our awareness
that we share
with nature. This results in more whole and accurate
information than our questionable stories about nature being
"competitive food chains
or survival of the fittest systems," as has been the case since the
1940's.
The results fit the observed fact that the web of
life is
attraction-based, cooperative and balanced. For this reason its
renewing and purifying ways do not
produce garbage or pollution, or our unreasonable abusiveness and
disorders.
The
Organic Psychology on this special course empowers us to learn about
ourselves
directly from the fountainhead of authority, the web of life itself,
through rational natural sensation and feeling connections with it.
This information supercedes the theoretical, half-truth, bonded,
nature-disconnected stories that, too often, we become conditioned or
addicted to. To explore this process further and
benefit from it, read http://www.ecopsych.com/ksanity.html.
Project NatureConnect courses and degree programs are accredited based
on the accuracy of the scientific information and webstring attraction
Ecology process described in the model on that page. Applying it will help you
address the destructive prejudice against nature that is placing at
risk the well being of all of life, including humanity.

A complete description of the Orientation Course, including its process
and its effects, is available as a word document you can read online or download at http://www.ecopsych.com/ORIENTATION.DOC

Learning how to think with
nature restores our well-being, sanity and Earth.
Nurture
your felt love for Nature. Never deny it. That love is nature's voice,
the eons, the purifying grace, intelligence, and beauty of Nature
sustaining us in its perfection.
The
disconnection of our thinking from how nature works underlies our
greatest hurt, greed and destructiveness. Natural systems and natural
people seldom produce or suffer them.
To
recover our sanity and well-being, we must learn how to thoughtfully
reconnect our mind with nature's support, balance and restorative
powers, learn how to help them help us restore their strength and peace
in our thoughts, soul and surroundings. The readily available Organic
Psychology of the Natural Systems Thinking Process enables us to do
this.
